Are there any signs for a dying battery?
  • A simple indication that your car battery is weak is hearing a slower engine cranking speed. When you turn the key, there will be a pause or hesitation before it starts to crank and turn over.

Is it time to replace my car battery? If you answer yes to any of the the questions below, it may be time to replace your battery:

  • Is your battery more than three years old?
  • Has your battery outlived its warranty period?
  • Have any warning lights come on?
  • Is your vehicle hard to start?
  • Has your vehicle been jump-started lately?
  • Have you had to use a portable charger to recharge your battery lately?
  • Do the lights dim when the A/C or heat is on?
  • Do the headlights dim when the engine is turned off?
  • Has your vehicle had alternator or belt problems recently?
  • Is there visible corrosion on the battery posts or cables?

How do I make my car battery life last longer?

  • The easiest way to ensure your battery will last the length of your warranty is to keep the terminals clear of corrosion and buildup. With the engine off, pop open your hood and undo the negative and then positive cable attached to your battery. Assess your battery for grime on the terminals, which can greatly impact your engine and battery performance. (If you notice that the battery case is leaking, swollen or bloated, skip the cleaning and head straight to our Service Department for a new battery!) Clean the top of your battery with a mix of baking soda and water, scrubbing the terminals with a toothbrush and a little elbow grease. When the buildup is removed, rinse any baking soda residue with water and let dry completely. Finally, reattach the positive and negative cables, and you are all set!

Toyota TrueStartTM batteries have been approved by Toyota engineers for years of trouble-free service, manufactured to Toyota's exacting standards for quality and performance. Even fluctuation in the temperature, which is all too common for Utah's weather, can greatly decrease battery life. These batteries offer the right combination of cold cranking amps (CCA) and reserve capacity (RC) for reliable performance regardless of climate.
