The next generation of Toyota’s TRD Pro Series has arrived and is ready to continue its reign of supremacy. The 2019 lineup includes the 4Runner, Tacoma, and welcomes back the Tundra.
Any seasoned off-roading pro knows that it’s all about the vehicle’s suspension. So, all models will have aluminum-bodied, 2.5-inch, FOX® Internal Bypass shocks, which will be calibrated differently for each model. The shocks will allow for better performance across all off-roading journeys, from rock crawling to desert running (yes, that means the Baja 1000). What’s even cooler is that the bypass shocks are internal instead of external, making on-road driving more enjoyable. Toyota says they’re perfect for, “high-speed desert running, slow-speed rock crawling, or simply driving to and from work.”

Not surprisingly, Toyota and FOX® created shocks that have combined high-pressure fluid and nitrogen gas to better handle off-roading and prolong seal life. The two front shocks are specifically calibrated with series-specific springs, purposed with giving the vehicles a taller stance on the trail and a truly sick appearance. The rear shocks are where it gets really crazy. They use a piggyback reservoir to increase performance by adding additional oil volume when the terrain gets difficult.
A Snorkeling Taco
The 2019 Tacoma gets a TRD Desert Air Intake snorkel, coupled with a 278-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 engine. No matter how dirty (or wet) your surroundings get, the engine is going to stay clean. This truck is perfect for the Baja 1000 as well as smaller excursions for the off-roading novice.
The Big-Daddy Tundra
This behemoth gets a hood scoop and a 2-inch lift. The Tundra is also newly adorned with Rigid Industries® LED fog lights and 18-inch, BBS forged-aluminum, five-spoke, satin black wheels. The grille is also redesigned and features a black finish. This truck is great for those who want something that doubles as a work truck and an off-roading weekend warrior.
The Updated 4Runner
The OG of the lineup gets a 1-inch lift, a new roof-rack, and appealing red TRD lettering. This SUV is great because it can handle any rugged terrain it encounters and comfortably haul the family to a soccer tournament or winter adventure.
Each vehicle will be offered in three series-specific colors: Midnight Black, Super White, and Voodoo Blue (last used on the FJ Cruiser).
Even if a week spent racing in Mexico isn’t a realistic option, the state of Utah still begs for the TRD series to be put to the test in our diverse terrains. Each of these vehicles will get you up Little and Big Cottonwood after a big snowfall and then down to Moab for some rock crawling. Stop by Larry H.
