The Toyota Yaris is an appealing subcompact economy car for drivers on a budget, as a gift to a recent graduate, or as a second "city car" to put around in when you're not using your Tundra. It starts under $16,000, yet offers an impressive number of standard safety and technology features, and with its Toyota reliability, you can expect it to retain value long into higher mileage.
The question is... which Yaris are we talking about?
When the Scion brand was discontinued last year, the Scion iA was absorbed into the Toyota lineup as the new Toyota Yaris iA. Both models share an engine, and many of their specs are similar, but they are distinctly different. So which Yaris should economy shoppers buy?
The Yaris iA is a sedan, which means the loss of some cargo space: 13.5 cubic feet vs. 15.6 cubic feet for the Yaris hatchback. However, the 2017 Yaris iA offers slightly better fuel economy, and was awarded an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK, while the regular Yaris was not.
