You often hear the cry that parts that are bought from the dealership are way too high in price and that a better deal can be had from the auto discount store that sells the same part for less. The problem, however, is that the part is not always "the same" at the discount store.

When you have your car repaired at the dealership, replacement parts should be of the same quality as the original part that was in the car when it was new. Otherwise, the warranty would be a joke and unenforceable. Replacement parts that are not factory authorized are usually inferior in some manner so that it will not last as long or perform in the same manner as an original part.

If aftermarket parts are as good as the original, then the highly trained brand mechanics would use the aftermarket part to save money. However, it does not happen that way because the factory authorized part will outlast the cheaper parts almost every time.
